Madame Web Falls Short at the Box Office: Can It Recover from Disappointing Debut?

News - 20 February 2024

Madame Web has started off on a rough note at the box office, failing to live up to expectations in terms of revenue. The film, which had its premiere on Valentine's Day, earned significantly less in its first six days than other Spider-Man films like Morbius. This was disappointing considering the hype surrounding its release.

In terms of critical reception, Madame Web also fell short, receiving the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score (13%) of any Spider-Man film ever. This was another blow to the movie's reputation and likely contributed to its lackluster performance at the box office.Starring Dakota Johnson, Madame Web only managed to gross $25 million in its opening weekend.

In comparison, Morbius grossed $39 million in its own opening weekend in 2022. The Amazing Spider-Man, on the other hand, has already grossed over $62 million, showing just how far Madame Web has to go to catch up to its predecessors.Looking back at some of the most successful Spider-Man films, Spider-Man (2002) earned an impressive $114.

8 million at the box office. Spider-Man: Homecoming followed closely behind with $117 million, while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned $120.6 million.

Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home were even more successful, grossing $151.1 million and $260.1 million respectively.

Despite Madame Web's lackluster performance, there were other films that fared better at the North American box office. Bob Marley: One Love, a biopic about the legendary singer, managed to surpass Madame Web in terms of revenue, earning $27.7 million last week.

This moderate success highlighted the disparity between films that resonate with audiences and those that fail to make a meaningful impact.Overall, Madame Web's struggles at the box office serve as a reminder of the challenges that come with bringing beloved characters to the big screen. While some Spider-Man films have achieved great success, others have fallen short of expectations.

It remains to be seen whether Madame Web can overcome its rocky start and find its footing among the iconic Spider-Man franchise.
